Here’s why we held a Team Day... with NO team

Our recent CVL Team Day. NO set location, NO time, NO agenda… and NO team.

Why NO team?

Because we decided to trade our last three months worth of team days for wellbeing days instead.

Because we realise that in order to function as a high-performing team we each need space to recharge and take care of ourselves.

Because we know times have been tough this past quarter.

And because we highly value wellbeing. In fact, it’s one of our three key values.

And so we downed tools and did whatever our individual souls needed for the day. From snow-topped mountains in Tekapo, to a view of Wellington from the Cook Straight, up the coast to Auckland via strawberry fields, waterfalls and black-sand beaches.

The images we each shared via our WhatsApp group physically portrayed the open space we had each chosen to explore that day. Wellbeing looks different for everyone, and the flexibility of an open day supported people to recharge in whatever way had meaning and heart for them.

The importance of keeping values top of mind

We often see organisations spend a considerable amount of time coming up with a strong set of corporate values, yet the real test is how these values hold true when the going gets tough.

Here at CVL, we have three core values. We commit to being: Wellbeing Warriors, Playful Professionals, and Brilliantly Bold in our work.

It was the foundation of these values that allowed the conversation to arise around work pressures and what we were doing to support each other. And so, the decision to switch out a full agenda and team day, to a wellbeing day off, felt like an ideal option in line with our Wellbeing Warrior value. And it felt so good, we did it for three months in a row!
